Liverpool are one of the hottest teams in the Premier League right now, having won four matches in a row and moving up to fourth in the table. Now the Reds hope to continue that hot streak as they step out of league action to take on Chelsea on Wednesday 28 October (20:00 GMT) in the Carabao Cup. Fans can expect heavy rotation due to [injuries](https://lfcglobe.co.uk/liverpool-fc-injury-list/) and fixture congestion, but as always, the Reds will push to advance at Anfield.

Liverpool team news and injury updates
The good news is Florian Wirtz is healthy after an injury scare vs. Brighton, but boss Andoni Iraola said he is unlikely to play due to rotation plans. Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz are still battling nagging injuries and are officially doubtful to play in the match and risk further setbacks. Iraola also intimated that massive changes would be made to the Starting XI.
“There will definitely be changes. But we want to win the game, we want to be competitive,” he said “We need to see how the legs are. We are kind of, not just in the Carabao Cup, also in the Champions League we are trying to make some changes from game to game, because I think it’s almost mandatory.“We want to be in the next round. We’ve been unlucky in the draw, we are playing Chelsea. They have been unlucky also. But we want to earn the right to be in the draw again and that only happens if you win.”

An intriguing matchup: Old friends Xabi Alonso and Jordan Henderson return
The Blues have had an up-and-down season so far. After a perfect 3-0 start to the campaign, they have only won 3 out of the last 6 matches. Liverpool fans will be very familiar with Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso as he made 210 appearances for the Reds, scoring 19 goals. He and Iraola are childhood friends, having played on the same youth team growing up, so it adds an extra layer of intrigue to the match. Chelsea will be without the services of leading scorer Joao Pedro, but Morgan Rogers has 4, and even old friend Jordan Henderson has chipped in with 2 goals. Defensively, Chelsea has struggled, producing only one clean sheet so far, while allowing nearly two goals per match.
The key tactical battle: Watch the wings
One of the hallmarks of Alonzo’s managerial style is a fluid formation with high-flying, aggressive wingers that like to push up the pitch. That means that the right and left back (likely Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas) will have to put in a proper shift for a full 90 minutes to absorb that pressure.
Head-to-head record and recent meetings
The last six meetings between the two sides have seen Liverpool garner three wins and a draw. The most notable of those victories came in the 2024 Carabao Cup Final where the Reds lifted the trophy after a 1-0 win.

Score Prediction & LFC Globe Verdict
This one is hard to predict. Both coaches say they want to win, but the proof of that will be evidenced by what type of team they put on the pitch. Iraola has said there will be changes and Alonso has confirmed that João Pedro will not play, so this match will come down to a battle of squad depth and rising stars.
