The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in Serie A last term, and is also on the radar of some of Italy's leading clubs at the moment.

The centre-back area is not a top priority for Everton to strengthen this winter, but Tiago is viewed as a player with a huge future ahead of him.

David Moyes and Co. are prepared to move and secure his signature, even if that means adding to their already ample depth at the heart of the backline.

Tiago Gabriel enjoying rapid rise

Gabriel has enjoyed a rapid rise in recent years, and that looks set to continue with a potential move to the Premier League on the horizon this winter.

The youngster was playing B team football in his native Portugal for Estrela da Amadora as recently as the 2024-25 campaign, but has quickly become a central part of Lecce's project.

He failed to start in just two Serie A games last term, and played a vital role in his team narrowly avoiding relegation to the second tier.

Gabriel has already started six league games so far this season, and has even chipped in with two goals and an assist.

Nevertheless, Lecce are aware that the starlet's growing reputation will make it difficult for them to keep hold of him long-term.

Everton are prepared to pounce on that stance in January, but it may not be easy for them given the level of competition.

Everton transfer decision has already cost them 'six points'

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider on Tuesday that his former club need to prioritise the addition of a new striker in January.

The Merseysiders missed out on a last-minute move to sign Folarin Balogun in the summer, and it has left Thierno Barry as the only striker in the senior squad.

Wyness believes that Everton's failure to bring in a new frontman this summer has already cost them "six points" in the Premier League, and will continue to hinder them moving forward.

Moyes has managed Barry well so far this season, but he has no option to revert away from the Frenchman at the moment.
