Barcelona sanctioned by Rfef after controversial Julian Alvarez transfer approach

There is no doubt that FC Barcelona had an exceptional summer transfer window, during which they significantly bolstered their team with seven new signings. They brought in some very exciting new players, including the likes of Rodri Hernandez and Anthony Gordon.

However, the Blaugranes were still unsuccessful in their top-priority operation, i.e., the signing of the Argentine forward Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid. The Catalan club continued trying to land the forward throughout the summer, while the player was also keen for such a move. However, Atletico Madrid remained undeterred in their will not to let their star forward join Barcelona.

In fact, the Colchonero club also took some legal measures against the Blaugrana side. They filed complaints with both RFEF and FIFA, and as [Diario AS](https://as.com/futbol/multa-de-602-euros-al-barcelona-por-el-caso-julian-alvarez-f202610-n/) has reported, they have now received a decision on their complaint to the RFEF, as Barcelona have been handed a symbolic fine of €602. Meanwhile, FIFA had declared itself incompetent to deal with this matter.

RFEF’s sanction against the Catalan side is based on Article 113 of the federation’s regulations, which deals with minor breaches of regulatory obligations. Atletico Madrid believed that Barcelona had not contacted them in writing before negotiating with Julian Alvarez, who has a contract with the Mattress Makers till 2030.

It was easy to understand why the Catalans were so keen to sign the Argentine last summer. With Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski’s departures last summer, they had a clear gap in the team. They ultimately signed Gabriel Jesus before the end of the summer transfer window, but it is Raphinha who has proven himself to be the best candidate for the center-forward position in Flick’s team.

Meanwhile, Julian Alvarez has already asked his club and his fans for forgiveness after the last summer’s episode and is already regaining form with Atletico Madrid. However, it would still not be too safe to bet against [Barcelona again making moves for him in the future](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/fabrizio-romano-reveals-barcelona-stance-on-julian-alvarez-after-deco-comments/).
