Catamo has shown he can deliver in high-pressure matches, with the winger a key player for the Portuguese side.

The Mozambique winger is a pacy and direct option out wide, and this season has picked up six goal contributions in 12 games.

It is no surprise that Catamo is now beginning to gain widespread recognition, with a move out of Lisbon now mooted.

At 25 years old, the African forward is in the peak years of his career.

With Ruben Amorim's comments about the winger sparked speculation about why he may be a success in the Premier League.

Why Ruben Amorim predicted significant career for Everton target Geny Catamo

Former Manchester United and Sporting manager Amorim believed Catamo had a big career ahead of him.

At 25 years old, he certainly still has time to do so.

Catamo has been linked with Everton over the last few days, with journalist Sacha Tavolieri sharing that the Toffees have been scouting the winger.

The Blues are not the only side looking into the Sporting man, with Newcastle, Leeds United, Bournemouth, Sunderland and Brentford all in the mix as well.

Catamo's performances in Portugal had pushed him further into being a national icon, at least according to his former manager.

Back in 2024, Amorim stated: "I imagine how Mozambique must be feeling and what his phone must be like.

"He can be a role model; he plays for a good club because many people in Mozambique like Sporting. If he's already a decisive player in important games and has good ability, I think he can grow much more.

"When countries have a role model like this, it helps with development. I also see some areas for him to work on."

Amorim's showcase the impact Catamo has made in Portugal for his nation, with the winger emerging as an important player for Sporting.

His potential to become an icon in Mozambique adds another reason for the Blues to snap him up, potentially offering the Toffees another market to spread their brand.

Do Everton need Catamo?

Catamo is a right-sided winger by nature, and so far this season, Everton's options have been poor.

Brennan Johnson has failed to impress when given the chance, and Tyler Dibling is still very much a raw profile.

A more experienced and higher-quality forward would certainly be welcomed in January or next summer.

Catamo has also been used in a defensive sense, utilised as a wing-back in Amorim's three-at-the-back.

So, the Mozambique international offers versatility as well.
