Manchester City's 2027/28 Third Kit Set for Bold Neon Yellow Design
Manchester City are set to adopt a high-visibility look for their 2027/28 third shirt as sportswear manufacturers Puma prepare another eye-catching release, according to reports.
Manchester City supporters have grown used to Puma experimenting with unconventional color schemes and bold visual concepts across away and alternative strips in recent seasons.
The partnership between the Premier League champions and the German manufacturer continues to produce some incredibly divisive shirts, including a Hacienda-inspired black away kit and the lime-and-black-stripes of the post-Covid season.
Early details surrounding the club's future apparel plans suggest that Puma are preparing to push those boundaries even further ahead of the 2027/28 campaign.
Footy Headlines leak details on high-visibility 2027/28 third kit
According to kit specialists Footy Headlines, Manchester City will step out in a striking neon yellow third shirt for the 2027/28 season. The upcoming release is slated for an official launch in August 2027 and will mark the first time in the club's history that a pure neon yellow shade will serve as the primary shirt color.
While accent colors and final details remain under wraps, a dark contrast tone such as navy is expected to complement the luminous base. Manchester City have previously flirted with high-visibility colours - including Nike's "Ghost Green" gradient shirt in 2015/16 and Puma's aforementioned lime-and-black alternative kit in 2022/23 - but the upcoming design will ditch any pretences of subtlety and embrace a vibrant neon aesthetic.
Puma continue creative kit strategy
The decision to employ such a bold primary hue should come as no surprise, considering the trend of third kit drops designed to stand out under the floodlights in domestic and European competitions alike.
Third kits have increasingly become a canvas for experimental styling, allowing design teams to throw traditional to the wind - the logic being that if it doesn’t work, fans will only have to put up with it for a few games across the season.
Furthermore, the leaked third kit details are the latest piece of the puzzle that hints toward Manchester City's future visual identity under Puma.
Reports in recent weeks have also pointed towards a 1990s retro-inspired pinstripe away shirt for next season, along with a home shirt paying tribute to the historic 2017/18 "Centurions" team on its tenth anniversary.
City debuted their current third kit in their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday - which was also the first shirt in professional football to be designed with AI. The white and blue strip did not get off to a winning start as Enzo Maresca’s men fell to their first Premier League defeat of the season.
