Ceadach O’Neill made his competitive senior debut for Arsenal as the Gunners suffered a shock Carabao Cup exit away to Fleetwood Town of League Two.
Northern Ireland international O’Neill started on the left wing and played a part in Viktor Gyokeres’ equalising goal with a good cross from the left flank.
O’Neill was replaced by Eberechi Eze in the 66th minute.
Marli Salmon started before being withdrawn at half time. The centre-back pushed forwards to create a chance for Max Dowman but was caught out for Fleetwood’s goal, which was scored by Aaron Loupalo-Bi, although Cristhian Mosquera should have offered greater support.
Dowman was sent off with five minutes remaining before Fleetwood, who showed excellent spirit throughout, prevailed on penalties at Highbury after the game had ended 1-1.
Marcell Washington was an unused substitute as he received his first competitive senior callup, with Maalik Hashi and Andre Harriman-Annous also named amongst the substitutes while Jack Porter travelled with the squad as third-choice goalkeeper.
