Liverpool have been monitoring Stuttgart centre-back Finn Jeltsch since the start of the season, according to Sport.
The Reds are assessing potential defensive reinforcements ahead of the January and summer transfer windows.
Liverpool might sell Joe Gomez this summer and will likely need a long-term successor to Virgil Van Dijk. Jeltsch is on their radar.
The 20-year-old has emerged as one of Germany’s most promising young defenders since joining die Schwaben in January 2025.
His performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League have caught the attention of a few big clubs.
Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring Jeltsch, who has established himself as a key figure in Stuttgart’s defence.
The 2026 European Golden Boy nominee‘s progress has been particularly impressive.
Jeltsch made 37 appearances for Stuttgart last season, earning a place in Germany’s World Cup squad, although he did not feature at the tournament.
Across seven Bundesliga appearances this season, Jeltsch has averaged 2.3 ground duels won per game at a success rate of 62%.
He has also won 2.4 aerial duels per match, with a 55% success rate. He can hold his own physically against experienced forwards.
He suits a side that plays with an aggressive press and a high defensive line, which could make him an attractive option for Liverpool.
However, securing his signature will not be straightforward. His club could demand more than €60 million to let him leave.
While a January transfer has been mooted, a summer move appears more realistic given the asking price and the difficulty of completing such an expensive deal mid-campaign.
Also, the Reds are not the only club in the race for his signature. Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are very interested.
The pair have serious problems in central defence that need addressing and have the Liverpool target on their shortlist of potential transfers.
