David Moyes speaking at an Everton press conference
The Friedkin Group's announcement that they are open to selling the club just two years after acquiring the Toffees at least offered some clarity.
But no one has any idea how long it could take to find a buyer, and what TFG's plan will be in the interim period.
With Everton suffering back-to-back 2-0 defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal respectively, the mood on the Blue half of Merseyside is a little numb presently.
The January transfer window will be upon us before we know it, and there is little indication of how active Everton will be, despite the obvious need for reinforcements.
Indeed, the malaise that is sweeping over the club was a topic of discussion on the Blues Room.
Paddy Boyland convinced about what David Moyes won't allow to happen
Everton had been unbeaten in all competitions prior to those two defeats against Chelsea and Arsenal.
But they had also drawn four Premier League games out of six previous to that.
Consequently, Everton have now dropped into the bottom half, with the Toffees sitting 11th in the table.
Blue Room presenter Matt Jones expressed his fear that the lack of pressure on various departments could have an adverse effect.
Jones said: "There's no pressure on David Moyes at the moment. There's no pressure on players in that squad to play better. There's no pressure on Angus Kinnear and his recruitment team or transfer committee or whatever he prefers them to be called to find players in January.
"Because not a bit of it matters does it until the owners change really. And that's a bit of a dangerous situation, I think, because that complacency can creep in as well as the shrug of the shoulders and being frustrated at things as well."
However, the Athletic journalist Paddy Boyland is sure that David Moyes would not allow complacency to creep into the dressing room.
Boyland replied: "I'd be surprised if that kind of permeated through into the dressing room purely because I don't think Moyes is that type to kind of allow it.
"I mean his kind of bottom line is you graft, and then everything else comes after that. I also think actually the squad is pretty tight knit, it's a decent group."
State of flux no good for anyone at Everton
It feels cruel to be back in this state of flux, and frankly it is no good for anyone.
A club with the history and prestiege of Everton should simply not be treading water and going through the motions.
There is so much potential at Everton, especially with the commerical opportunities presented by the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Hopefully there can be some more clarity in the coming weeks, before the January transfer window preferably, because the current situation is not helpful for anyone.
