Alexis Mac Allister
Alexis Mac Allister has started the season as one of Liverpool’s most dependable players under new manager Andoni Iraola.
He has scored four goals in 12 appearances in all competitions, including the winner against Atletico Madrid in September.
His best performance came against Villarreal on October 20. Liverpool trailed 2-0 inside 30 minutes before Mac Allister headed in Kostas Tsimikas’ corner and later swept home Rio Ngumoha’s cross in a 4-3 Champions League win.
After the Villarreal game, he said of last season: “It was clear that I was not at the level.”
Liverpool finished fifth under Arne Slot and won no trophies. Mac Allister said Iraola had changed the mood in the group.
His contract situation has not improved with his form. His deal runs until June 2028, and Liverpool have not offered new terms.
Fellow midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai signed extensions in March and July respectively. Mac Allister did not receive an offer.
The latest report suggests the club’s position is firm.
According to Sky Sports Switzerland, Liverpool are leaning towards selling Mac Allister in the summer of 2027 as part of a midfield overhaul.
The Argentina international would prefer to stay. The report says he is not expected to be offered a new contract and has been told of the club’s plans. A departure is now seen as a “concrete possibility.”
Liverpool are reportedly ready to spend a “significant sum” on at least one new midfielder.
Sky Sports also reports interest from clubs in Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia. The Spanish and Italian interest is described as the most concrete.
Real Madrid, managed by Jose Mourinho, are monitoring the situation. His father and agent, Carlos Mac Allister, has said there has been no approach from Real Madrid and that Liverpool have not contacted the family about a renewal.
Mac Allister addressed the situation in September. He said the club was “not in a position to offer me a new contract,” which made him “very, very sad.” He also said there had been options to leave in the summer.
Liverpool have reportedly looked at Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, while Roma’s Manu Kone is also a reported target.
To receive a fee for Mac Allister, Liverpool would need to sell him next summer or the following winter. By next summer he would have one year left on his contract.
He has made 162 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 23 goals and providing 21 assists. He has won the Premier League and the EFL Cup once each with the club.
