It comes after Manchester City were found guilty by an independent commission of breaching the Premier League's financial rules between 2009 and 2018, artificially inflating commercial revenues by around £830 million, according to published findings.

Officials at Manchester City strenuously deny the findings released in a verdict issued at the end of September, lodging a 'comprehensive' appeal and insisting that their body of 'irrefutable evidence' will ultimately clear their name.

Supporters across football and particularly in the Premier League now have opportunity to voice their own opinions on City, and following on from Liverpool's hostile reception and sea of banners in the direction of the Sky Blues, Aston Villa followed suit.

City are continuing to perform to a high standard despite the hostile away atmospheres the club are facing, but ultimately saw their exemplary start to the brand new top-flight campaign come to an end at the hands of Unai Emery's side on Saturday lunchtime.

Two goals from Nicolas Jackson to punish errors from Manchester City's Marc Guehi and Gianluigi Donnarumma made the difference, cancelling out Erling Haaland's headed equaliser early into the second-half in the Midlands.

Anderson predicts hostile atmosphere every away game

Speaking prior to Manchester City's eventual 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park, midfield star Elliot Anderson was quizzed on his own start to life at the Etihad Stadium, as he continues to perform at an exceptional level following his £116 million move to the club.

"Just my teammates, the togetherness within the group, the way the club's ran, the staff, everything's just made me feel so settled, and obviously when you start well on the pitch it helps off it," Anderson responded when asked for the reason behind his positive start.

However, circumstances surrounding life at Manchester City took a fresh twist in late September, as the Premier League confirmed that the club had been found guilty of breaching financial rules in the division over a nine-year period.

That outcome and publicised findings has let to widespread backlash in the direction of City, starting with a hostile atmosphere at Liverpool's Anfield, and continuing into the second top-flight away fixture at Villa Park.

Asked whether this is something Manchester City can expect in all of their away matches, Anderson laughed, "Yeah, probably! Everywhere we go, we'll get it!"

Where do Man City go next after Aston Villa?

Following defeat against Aston Villa, Manchester City now face back-to-back home fixtures across competitions - both of which come against Fabian Hurzeler's impressive Brighton & Hove Albion side in the Carabao Cup fourth round and Premier League.

Beyond that double-header, City will then return to UEFA Champions League duties with a visit to Germany and a meeting with RB Leipzig, before concluding the latest block of matches with a trip to Nottingham Forest in the English top-flight.
