Tottenham Hotspur fans have been frustrated by Dominic Solanke’s struggles since his return from injury, and it has now been revealed whether Spurs have changed their mind about the striker.

Solanke has scored just one Premier League goal this season, with the centre-forward still looking some way short of his fittest and sharpest form.

However, despite this, the Tottenham head coach, who has left Richarlison out of the club’s Premier League squad, has continued backing the English striker publicly.

After his equaliser at Old Trafford, De Zerbi even described Solanke as a ‘complete’ striker, suggesting that he may be the ideal option to lead the line in his system.

De Zerbi said at the time about the striker: “He deserves to be a captain today, because he suffered maybe too much, because ‘Tottenham didn’t win, Tottenham didn’t score, who is the striker of Tottenham? Solanke is not good enough’, it’s not true. Solanke is good enough to play, maybe he is the best striker for us, because his qualities.

“He is a complete player, he is a good guy, he has personality, he has to feel good in terms of his physical condition, but he is a great player, and I wanted to show what is my confidence, and what is the importance I give him in this team.”

Tottenham are not making any plans to sell Dominic Solanke

Football Insider have now claimed that despite the 29-year-old’s struggles this season, Spurs are not actively looking to sell the player in the upcoming transfer window.

The report claims that despite his lacklustre performances, Solanke continues to be ‘highly-regarded’ by De Zerbi and his coaching staff.

The North London club continue to believe that the former Bournemouth man is the right man to lead their attack if they can get him fit and firing.

The decision-makers at Tottenham still have faith in the England international and are not thinking about offloading him anytime soon.

In fact, there is still hope at N17 that he will prove he is worth the £65m they paid to sign him from the Vitality Stadium two and a half years ago.

Spurs want to add more firepower to their forward line in January

Football Insider say that another reason for Tottenham’s intention not to sell Solanke is that they want to add to their attacking depth rather than reduce it in January.

This comes amid widespread reports that Spurs are expected to prioritise replacing Richarlison with a new number nine in January.

According to various sources, Tottenham have already compiled a shortlist of strikers around Europe whose situations they are keeping close tabs on in the lead-up to the upcoming transfer window.
