Everton vs Newcastle Carabao Cup Preview and Predicted XI

Everton face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, with multiple injury concerns likely to be impacting David Moyes' decisions.

As mentioned in the Arsenal piece, predicting how Everton are going to line up is incredibly difficult.

The obvious changes don't seem to happen too often, while David Moyes has been cautious about leaking any team news. Moyes even refused to answer any questions on team news ahead of Arsenal, which was no surprise when we found out Jarrad Branthwaite and Jack Grealish were unavailable.

There are injury concerns for Everton heading into the game against Newcastle. Moyes hasn't provided a team news update so far, but it feels unlikely that we will have a fully fit squad for the game.

Moyes might be looking to tinker with his starting XI due to the fact that we played Newcastle in the Premier League just a few days later, but there's no doubt he will be taking the Carabao Cup seriously.

It's been a weird season for Newcastle so far. There's a sense of frustration among their supporters, it seems, but they sit in eighth position in the Premier League table. A 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace certainly helped that, but they'd lost to Aston Villa and Coventry City in the two previous games.

It's safe to say it's been an inconsistent start to the campaign for the Magpies, picking up some impressive results but also struggling at times.

Everton team news

As mentioned, Branthwaite and Grealish were both unavailable for the trip to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday. Branthwaite was missing due to suffering a concussion against Chelsea after clashing with Emi Martinez, so based on the protocols, he's unlikely to be available.

Grealish was suffering with an illness, so you'd imagine he would be fit enough to return for Newcastle. Whether he starts, though, is another question.

Vitalii Mykolenko came off injured against Arsenal at the weekend. He's suffered a few little injuries this season, so regardless of the severity, he might be took out of the starting XI for Newcastle.

Predicting Everton's XI

Pickford; Rohl, O'Brien, Tarkowski, Garner; Armstrong, Hackney; Johnson, Dewsbury-Hall, George; Barry.

The predicted XI does differ slightly from the XI we'd like to see for the game against Newcastle.

Brennan Johnson is a regular starter under David Moyes, and although many would like to see Tyler Dibling come into the XI, a start for Johnson wouldn't be a surprise.

If Mykolenko and Branthwaite are both unavailable, there's a big decision to be made at left-back. As mentioned, Mykolenko may not start even if it wasn't a serious injury, so perhaps James Garner is the logical solution.

That would mean a start for Hayden Hackney in the middle of the park, but other than that, we might not see too many changes from Arsenal.
