The 27-year-old's current deal is set to expire in 2028, with the Reds reportedly without any plans to hand him a new contract.
Should Liverpool's stance not change, they will certainly have to consider a sale next summer if they are to get a return on the deal worth up to £55million they agreed with Brighton in 2023 for the Argentine.
'No danger' of Alexis Mac Allister leaving
It has been several years since Liverpool had strong depth in midfield, with signings further up the pitch seemingly prioritised.
The sale of Mac Allister would be a particularly bizarre decision because it would change that.
"He's played every game. They'll get a deal done, don't worry about that. There's no danger there," King told Football Insider.
"He's got that very tough midfielder attitude. He's looking to win the ball. He scored a couple of goals this season.
"I wouldn't hesitate. I'd certainly give him a new two-year extension. He's played every game. If playing every game isn't enough to think, 'well, let's take a chance.
"'Let's give him a year-with-a-year option, even.' He wants to play for the football club, so that's always a good plus. He's a good player. He's a World Cup winner. I just think it's a no-brainer."
Andoni Iraola keen on Mac Allister
Mac Allister has been a key part of Iraola's team so far this season, and the Spaniard appears just as bemused as to why he could be set to leave.
"For me it's impossible [to say what happened last season], because I wasn't here last season," the manager said last week when asked about his improvement in form. "So we are talking about hypotheses. And he will know better than me, definitely, no?
"What I can say about him is that I'm happy, because his performances have been very good since day one I arrived. He arrived [as] the last one from the national team, but straight away took everything, all the information.
I think he's smart, understands, you don't need to explain seven times the same things to Alexis. Some of the players get things very quickly, get information even from opposition, what we need from each team, from each position.
"And I think he helps a lot also his team-mates, because he understands the overall picture, and it's good to have him on the pitch."
