“He’s Got To Show A Little Bit More” – Heskey Pinpoints What Wirtz Must Do Next Following Improved Liverpool Form
Ex-Liverpool striker Emile Heskey thinks Florian Wirtz needs to start grabbing “games by the scruff of the neck” to win over all the doubters.
The German international’s form has improved markedly in recent games, but to silence his critics who question whether he is worth £116m, Heskey told BestBettingSites he has to dominate opponents:
“I don’t know about Florian Wirtz justifying his price tag. I think he’s just finding his feet a little bit. It’s been a very difficult time for him coming into a different league—a league that’s a lot quicker, a lot stronger, a lot more intense—and finding where you actually fit within that.”

“He’s found it very difficult, and he’s still finding it hard now, even though he’s scored and is putting in performances where people say he’s showing potential. He’s got to show a little bit more still to really grab games by the scruff of the neck. That’s the sort of player that we need. You know he’s got the talent to dominate games, and that is what we want to see him do.”
Wirtz’s Liverpool stats so far this season
The 23-year-old has scored 1 goal and contributed 3 assists in 11 appearances. He is currently averaging a goal contribution every 212.5 minutes.
It should be pointed out, though, that the first goal against Brighton at the weekend was taken off him and given as a Pacal Gross own goal instead. If that strike was included, he would be averaging a contribution every 170 minutes.
Will Wirtz play against Chelsea?
Head coach Andoni Iraola says that the German has a chance of making the squad for the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie on Wednesday night.
Wirtz sustained a knock to his ankle during the win over Brighton, and he was forced off the pitch in the second half.
