Chelsea striker Danny Welbeck has his sights firmly set on overcoming Liverpool at Anfield in tonight's Carabao Cup Round Four clash, a result that could mark a significant step in the Blues' pursuit of a first major trophy under Xabi Alonso.
Having joined Stamford Bridge from Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer, the experienced forward has quickly embraced the challenge of helping Chelsea build on their flawless start in the competition and continue their charge towards Wembley.
Standing in their way are familiar foes. Chelsea's last two encounters with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup have both come on the grand stage of a Wembley final. The Reds prevailed in dramatic fashion on penalties in 2022 before edging a tight contest 1-0 two years later.
Welbeck is under no illusions about the task awaiting Chelsea on Merseyside, but he knows that lifting silverware means overcoming the very best.
And with a place in the quarter-finals at stake, the Blues have the opportunity to make a statement.
"It's been good this season for us in the Carabao Cup. To get off the mark personally was good, and to progress as far as we have is good for the club and the squad, and we want to keep on pushing," he explains.
"To win a competition like this, you're going to have to play these big teams at some point. Liverpool are one of those tough opponents, and we're looking forward to the game. It's an exciting tie. We've prepared well to make sure that we are ready for it on the night."

The 35-year-old is a two-time winner of the League Cup, having lifted the trophy in both 2009 and 2010. Next year will mark a decade since he last lifted a major piece of silverware, something which will only make him more determined to succeed.
He scored on his Chelsea debut in a 2-0 Round Two win over Luton Town, before starring in a remarkable Round Three comeback against Leeds United.
As they recovered from two goals down to win 6-3, the striker struck a brace, including the crucial goal that put the Blues 3-2 ahead. It was a night he won't be forgetting anytime soon.
The Englishman adds: "The game against Leeds United in the last round was a crazy one. The first half wasn't so great, but in the second half we came out and turned it around.
"How we approached that second half and how we turned it around was brilliant, and it gives us a great opportunity now to go to Anfield and hopefully progress again."
Wembley Way may be beginning to loom on the horizon, but Welbeck is not looking too far ahead, but the prospect of lifting silverware is never far from his thoughts.
"It would be incredible if we could go on and win this, especially given it's my first season at the Club", he reveals.
"Winning trophies is something you really push for in your career, and when you're growing up, so it would be really special for us to go and try and win this one."
