Chelsea are not the only club keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain’s Desire Doue. Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation. However, all four could be left disappointed after reports that new contract talks have progressed.
Doue is already under contract at the Ligue 1 giants until 2029, but it is expected that any new deal will keep him at the club for years to come. While no deal has been agreed, the France international has made clear that he is willing to stay.
Overall, this seems more like a formality than a race. PSG have no reason to consider offers for a back-to-back Champions League winner who scored in the 2025 final against Inter. Doue also turned down Bayern Munich in 2024 to join them from Rennes.
To make matters worse for the Blues, they have no European football this season and Doue has been valued at €100m or more. The club have already smashed their transfer record to sign Morgan Rogers for £117m in July, so spending nine figures again in the same area would be pushing it.
Where Would Desire Doue Fit In?
This is more of an issue than the price tag. Chelsea already have a busy attacking unit, with Cole Palmer being the main playmaker and Morgan Rogers arriving in the summer as their record signing.
They also have two teenage stars that they have invested heavily in. Estevao hasn’t started since their third-round Carabao Cup win over Leeds in early September. Geovany Quenda only just got his first Premier League start against Tottenham.
Another wide forward would only crowd a squad that can play in just three competitions. The gap in the squad is at centre-forward, where Joao Pedro will be out for weeks with a thigh injury, and Danny Welbeck is 35.
This is currently just a monitoring situation and, barring a surprise in Paris, it looks set to stay that way.
