Liverpool have started their Champions League league-phase campaign with three wins from three.

They sit third in the 36-team table, level on nine points with Paris Saint-Germain, Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Real Betis.

They beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 at Anfield, won 6-3 at LASK and then edged Villarreal 4-3 at home last week. That gives Liverpool 12 goals scored, seven conceded and a goal difference of +5.

Five matches remain. Liverpool visit Fenerbahce on 4 November and Club Brugge on 25 November, then host Porto on 9 December.

They travel to Inter Milan on 19 January and finish the phase at Anfield against Lens on 27 January.

That last fixture now carries a restriction for visiting supporters.

According to UEFA, a disciplinary ruling announced on Tuesday bans Lens from selling tickets to their fans for the game at Anfield.

UEFA said its appeals judges imposed the ban for two away games, at Leipzig on 24 November and at Liverpool on 27 January. A third game ban is deferred for a two-year probationary period.

UEFA also fined Lens €80,000 for lighting and throwing pyrotechnics and for acts of damage.

The charges relate to Lens’s 3-0 defeat at Club Brugge on 21 October. Lens fans lit dozens of flares and threw some towards rival supporters and the pitch, and the game was stopped briefly.

Lens were already on UEFA probation for fans lighting flares and fireworks at Slavia Prague in September.

The French club published an official statement, stating that 132 pyrotechnic devices were recorded in the UEFA report and that the supporters’ use of them was planned in advance.

The club also says items were thrown towards the pitch and at supporters, including fans with reduced mobility. It says firecrackers injured a steward.

Lens say the club and supporter groups agreed last season that safety must never be put at risk. The agreement followed earlier incidents at Metz, Lille, London and Reims.

Lens have also acted at home. They will not open the away section for Friday’s league match at Lille, which they describe as symbolically close to the Bruges trip.

The club says it will file complaints against named individuals where possible and will not admit masked supporters to stadiums.

Lens have three points from three games and sit 27th in the league phase table.

They host Como on 4 November and travel to Leipzig on 24 November. They then face Bodo/Glimt at home on 9 December and Manchester City at home on 20 January before the trip to Liverpool.
