Arsenal's squad is looking a little light on the ground on the back of Tuesday evening's shock Carabao Cup defeat at League Two Fleetwood Town.

‌

‌

The Gunners must dust themselves off quickly as they are heading to Anfield on Sunday to face a Liverpool side that is rejuvenated under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

‌

While Arsenal have a number of players doubtful for the visit to Merseyside (Max Dowman is currently suspended), Mikel Arteta is believed to be keeping his cards close to his chest on the injury front.

He will be handed the chance to issue a fresh update on Friday at the Sobha Training Centre in his pre-match press conference. Here is the latest injury news with potential return dates from N5.

Christos Tzolis

The Greek is pushing to be back to face Liverpool following his recent hamstring strain, sustained while on international duty with Greece.

As football.london reported last week, he has a chance of returning in some capacity against Liverpool in what would be his first appearance this side of the international break.

Tzolis is yet to have been spotted in training, though that doesn't mean he hasn't trained with the group yet. The crux of his rehab work has taken place at London Colney, so he's remained in and around the group.

Arsenal need him back so if he was able to get the green light for Sunday, in would be a major boost. Either way, he is very close to returning to fitness.

Riccardo Calafiori

football.london understands Riccardo Calafiori is a doubt for Sunday's trip to Liverpool due to the issue he sustained in the final stages of last weekend's win over Everton.

Calafiori was spotted holding his hip and stomach and is believed to have picked up a problem during an accidental collision with an Everton player.

Club sources remain tight-lipped on what exactly the issue is - medical staff have still been assessing it this week - but he is in a race against the clock to prove his fitness in time for the clash with the Reds.

Arsenal could probably get by against Slavia Prague without him too if required but it's an unfortunate blow.

Noni Madueke had to finish the game against Everton at left-back because Calafiori couldn't perform certain actions.

Mikel Arteta confirmed after the defeat against Fleetwood Town that the full-back wasn't available.

Declan Rice

Again, Mikel Arteta noted Declan Rice wasn't available - like Riccardo Calafiori - against Fleetwood after sustaining an issue against Everton.

Rice was spotted clutching his right hamstring in the second half before being subbed but he was then pictured in Arsenal training on Monday.

He's still currently expected to be fine for the weekend.

Mikel Merino

Mikel Merino was expected to start for Arsenal at Fleetwood but in the end, he didn't even travel.

That's because he was suffering from illness and Arteta wanted him to rest ahead of Sunday's blockbuster clash at Anfield.

There even now seems to be a chance that Merino could start in place of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres as they were both poor against Fleetwood. Either way, it seems as though he will be ready to feature on Sunday.

Noni Madueke

Mikel Arteta declared during his post-Fleetwood interview that Noni Madueke wasn't available against The Codd Army due to an ankle problem.

His absence is thought to just be precautionary, however, as Arsenal need him firing on Sunday against Liverpool.

There is no major concern that the England international is facing a lay-off - he completed the full 90 minutes against Everton.

Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka is unlikely to be available until early December at the absolute earliest following his quad issue.

There are some suggestions it might even be late December or early January by the time he's fully recovered and ready to start matches again.

It seems like a pretty bad injury which requires proper rest and rehab. For now, we have to give Arsenal the benefit of the doubt when discussing a timeline as the initial intel is that Saka will miss a minimum of six weeks.

Possible return date: Real Madrid (H) - December 9

William Saliba

Ezri Konsa has been so good, people have almost forgotten about the big man.

Mikel Arteta hasn't though and he's keen to get the Frenchman back to bolster his defensive ranks.

The likelihood is that Saliba will be held back until after the international break, even though he is firmly on the comeback trail.

He's been doing some individual training on the grass this month as he steps up his rehab and is getting close to being back after breaking down in the World Cup semi-finals with his back injury.

Possible return date: Newcastle (A) - November 21
