Arsenal head into the final months of 2026 determined to defend their Premier League crown and go one step further in Europe after last season’s agonising Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Mikel Arteta has made clear that the newly crowned champions will not stand still in the transfer market, insisting Arsenal remain open to strengthening the squad in January despite fielding what many consider the strongest group in the Premier League this season.

The manager has repeatedly stressed that competing on multiple fronts requires depth in every area of the pitch, and the defence is no exception.

With squad management central to sustaining a title defence and another deep European run, Arsenal’s recruitment staff have been assessing centre-back options across the continent.

That search has stretched into Serie A, where Arsenal are far from alone in their interest.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Arsenal are monitoring Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon, with Manchester United also keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old’s progress.

Ramon has emerged as one of Italian football’s most sought-after young defenders.

He left Real Madrid to join Como and has developed into an important player under former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, helping the club secure Champions League qualification last season.

His rise has not gone unnoticed elsewhere in the Premier League either.

Manchester United’s interest in Ramon has run alongside scouting activity from Chelsea, with all three English clubs tracking his development throughout the year.

Real Madrid, however, retain significant control over his future.

The Spanish club inserted a buyback clause into the deal that took Ramon to Como, along with a 50 per cent sell-on clause that entitles them to half of any future transfer fee.

That buyback mechanism gives Real Madrid the option to bring Ramon back to the Bernabeu in the summers of 2027 or 2028, a factor that complicates any immediate move for Arsenal or United.

Como are under no financial pressure to sell before then, with the defender under contract until 2030.

Ramon’s growing profile has driven his valuation sharply upward, with his market value now sitting between €45 million and €50 million.

That figure places him within range for clubs the size of Arsenal and Manchester United, though it still represents a significant outlay for a young defender.

Despite the interest, a deal remains far from close.

Jacobo Ramon has previously said he is happy at Como and is not currently focused on his long-term future, while the club has shown no urgency to open talks.
