One of David Moyes’ most trusted Everton players could potentially be of interest to Chelsea.

At the moment, the Toffees have a very small squad after it was trimmed at the end of the summer transfer window. In an ideal world, Everton will not be losing players in the January window and instead bring in perhaps two or three new faces.

But given the way Everton have started the new season, there is going to be interest in Everton players from other clubs.

Jarrad Branthwaite has already been linked with Manchester United again following a great start to the campaign.

But his defensive partner James Tarkowski has also been solid, and there’s been a suggestion he might actually now be on Chelsea’s transfer radar

James Tarkowski to Chelsea could be a rumour to listen out for

In the summer, we saw Chelsea look to add experience to their squad. At first they attempted to sign Granit Xhaka from Sunderland, but the midfielder opted to stay put.

In the end, they snapped up veteran Jordan Henderson, who made headlines at the weekend with a brace against Bournemouth.

Seemingly, Chelsea may look to go down the route of adding experience again in January, with Si Phillips – a podcast host who also writes about Chelsea and has connections at the club – stating that Tarkowski is a name that’s been mentioned to him regarding potential Chelsea targets.

He said in a video on his YouTube channel: “James Tarkowski from Everton would definitely tick a lot of those boxes in terms of the experience and other bits and pieces. You might say why am I talking about Tarkowski? Basically I’ve had his name mentioned to me, last week actually. I haven’t put anything out on it yet and I’ve been trying to clarify the information and if there’s actually anything to it.

“I’ve been checking in on it and had his name mentioned to me in a sense that the source said ‘You might want to look into this, there could be something there’. But the source was not telling me that Chelsea are interested in Tarkowski, they were telling me you might want to research this. That’s what I’m doing right now, I’m trying to find out about it, if there’s anything to it. It’s a whisper, a very small whisper.”

Phillips stressed for people not to take these comments as Chelsea definitely being interested in Tarkowski just at the moment. But it’s a rumour that may well surface at some point.

Tarkowski has been one of Everton’s standout performers so far this season and has started every Premier League game so far as captain.

Without a doubt, he is one of Moyes’ most trusted players, and one would imagine any approach for him in January would be rebuffed by Everton.

Tarkowski is under contract until 2028 and Everton would like to hope he would see that contract out, especially with him being captain and the way he has talked up the club and how special it is.
