The 27-year-old has been a key man for the Reds this season, appearing in 12 matches across all competitions and starting nine of them.
The midfielder has expressed his disappointment at the decision and it remains to be seen whether a change of heart is had by decision-makers at Anfield.
Some have argued that the Argentina international's good form has arrived with a new contract in mind, and are keen to see the club resist and refresh in the transfer window.
Alexis Mac Allister's new deal is 'a no-brainer'
Though Keane spent most of his career with Liverpool rivals Man United, Mac Allister can be grateful for the comparison.
"He's got that very tough midfielder attitude. He's looking to win the ball. He scored quite a few goals this season, headers as well," King told Football Insider.
"I wouldn't hesitate. I'd certainly give him a new deal. He's played every game. If playing every game isn't enough to think, 'well, let's take a chance, let's give him a year-with-a-year option, even.'
"He wants to play for the football club, so that's always a good plus. He's a good player. He's a World Cup winner. I just think it's a no-brainer. You don't see that type of player much in the Premier League.
"Someone who goes out and wins it. He isn't as good as Roy Keane, but he does the same kind of destructive work in midfield that he used to do."
"Brilliant, brilliant pass, Mac Allister," he said. "He is a smart footballer, I’ll tell you that.
"He gets it here, the execution, the weight of the pass, the first touch from [Mohamed] Salah - beautiful. Sexy football to me, this, love watching it."
