Trent Alexander-Arnold has endured a difficult period since leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid in 2025.
Injuries disrupted his first season, including a seven-week absence because of a hamstring problem.
His situation has become even more challenging under new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.
Alexander-Arnold has fallen behind summer signing Denzel Dumfries in the right-back pecking order.
Mourinho has also regularly used midfielder Federico Valverde on the right side of defence.
The England international has consequently started only three of Real Madrid’s opening nine La Liga matches.
His limited opportunities have inevitably created speculation about another move, including a possible Anfield return.
However, Liverpool have now made their position clear regarding a reunion with their former defender.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool do not currently view Alexander-Arnold as a concrete transfer target.
The Reds are therefore looking elsewhere despite continuing to assess their options at right-back.
Alexander-Arnold has played 345 minutes across seven appearances in all competitions this season.
He has registered one assist and recently remained unused across three consecutive league and European fixtures.
Real Madrid could also consider selling the defender if they receive a suitable offer. However, Alexander-Arnold remains under contract with the Spanish club until June 2031.
Liverpool currently have several options as they assess the long-term structure of their right-back position. Ronald Araujo has impressed while operating there during his loan spell with the Reds.
Liverpool are also considering whether to spend around £46 million to sign Araujo permanently.
Jeremie Frimpong remains another option, although he has not fully convinced since arriving at Anfield. Conor Bradley’s injury problems have also continued to affect his availability.
Meanwhile, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been linked with Alexander-Arnold amid his reduced role.
For now, Liverpool have decided against pursuing an emotional reunion while Alexander-Arnold continues fighting for his Real Madrid place.
