Chelsea have enjoyed an encouraging start under Xabi Alonso following another significant summer overhaul. The Blues sit fourth in the Premier League after collecting 13 points from seven matches.
Alonso has overseen four victories, one draw and two defeats during those opening fixtures. Chelsea also reshaped their squad considerably before the new manager’s first campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Morgan Rogers became their biggest addition after arriving from Aston Villa for £117 million. Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda and Valentin Barco also strengthened Alonso’s options.
Several major departures helped balance that spending, including Enzo Fernandez’s £125 million move to Manchester City.
Chelsea are already monitoring possible future additions as Alonso continues building his squad.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea maintain an interest in Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz following a recommendation from Alonso.
The Chelsea manager previously worked with Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen and remains a major admirer. However, the Blues are not actively pursuing the Germany international at this stage.
Instead, Chelsea are monitoring his situation in case Liverpool eventually become willing to consider a sale. Liverpool currently have no intention of allowing Wirtz to leave Anfield.
The 23-year-old also remains committed to succeeding at the club despite an uneven start on Merseyside. Recent performances have provided encouraging signs that his form is improving.
Wirtz created nine chances from open play during Liverpool’s recent match against Brentford. He also scored during their 4-3 Champions League victory over Villarreal.
Liverpool therefore remain determined to make the transfer work rather than consider an early departure.
Wirtz also remains under contract at Anfield until 2030, strengthening Liverpool’s position over his future.
Chelsea’s interest nevertheless provides a potential alternative should his circumstances eventually change.
Alonso’s previous relationship with Wirtz could become significant if Liverpool ever open the door to negotiations.
For now, Chelsea are maintaining their interest rather than preparing an immediate move for the Liverpool midfielder.
