Jack Grealish Absent From Everton Game Due to Discipline

Everton winger Jack Grealish was missing from the squad to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.

Everton winger Jack Grealish was missing from the squad to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night, and the club have revealed why.

The Toffees are looking to go one step closer to ending their trophyless run as they host the Magpies at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Everton face Newcastle just a few days later, too, in the Premier League, but all eyes are on this one temporarily, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Seamus Coleman on Everton, David Moyes, and Wanting More

With the Toffees already having such a small squad, David Moyes was unable to make too many changes for this game, and he's unable to make too many changes in general.

Any injuries and suspensions hurt Everton significantly, and it was a huge blow for them to be missing Jarrad Branthwaite and Grealish against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Many would have been expecting a return to at least the squad for Grealish against Newcastle, but after the team news was announced, the English winger was missing completely.

Grealish was also unavailable against Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday, with the club suggesting that this was due to illness.

Everton have now confirmed that Grealish is unavailable for the game against Newcastle due to a breach of club discipline. Everton announced Grealish's reason for his injury very shortly after his name was missing from the team sheet.

According to journalist Paul Joyce, it is related to an unauthorised absence from training.

It will be interesting to discover whether his absence from the game against Arsenal and the game against Newcastle are linked, or whether he genuinely was ill for the opening game.

Either way, Grealish has truly let Everton down ahead of an absolutely humongous game, and it's no surprise that the Toffees have taken action. Beating Newcastle means Everton will face Fleetwood Town in the next round of the Carabao Cup, but they'll have to try to do so without Grealish in the squad.

It's incredibly disappointing to discover this, and hopefully David Moyes will be able to provide more details in the near future.

Moyes has always been a huge fan of Grealish and has backed him when many others wouldn't, but there's little chance he'll be best pleased with his ill-discipline.

Everton face Newcastle in the Premier League on Monday night, so it'll be interesting to see whether Everton are willing to allow Grealish to play in that game.
