Since Jose Mourinho's arrival, the 28-year-old has fallen well down the pecking order at the Bernabeu, leading to speculation about his long-term future at the club.
The right-back is expected to be unhappy with his lack of minutes, and could explore a move back to English football, with a number of top clubs tracking his situation.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Chelsea are prepared to offer Alexander-Arnold an exit route from Real Madrid if he becomes available.
Whether that would happen in the January transfer window or next summer is unclear, but if his situation at Real Madrid does not change, he could become available.
Liverpool have also been tipped as a potential landing spot, but given the way he left the club in 2025, there are doubts on both sides about the merits of a quick return.
What is next for Trent Alexander-Arnold?
Football Insider revealed on 27 October that Alexander-Arnold has no immediate plans to return to the Premier League as he hopes to fight for his future at Real Madrid.
However, his continued absence from a regular place in the starting XI has led to suggestions that he could be tempted by the right offer to return to English football.
Chelsea are now emerging as suitors for the England international as they remain determined to strengthen Xabi Alonso's squad, with a high-profile deal catching their eye.
"One name who I have heard in connection with a move to Chelsea is Trent Alexander-Arnold," Brown told Football Insider.
"It came as a bit of a surprise to me, to be honest, but he has fallen well down the pecking order at Real Madrid to the point where he's now the second or even third choice.
"It appears Mourinho doesn't rate him particularly in that right-back position, and he's not the only one, because he's been out in the cold for England as well.
"Chelsea, though, will always be keen on the possibility of signing a big-name player, it's just what they do, so they'll be keeping an eye on whether he does become available.
"There's always the talk about him going back to Liverpool as well, but I don't think that's going to be a possibility because of the way he left, nobody was particularly happy.
Could Liverpool make a move for Alexander-Arnold?
Speculation about Alexander-Arnold's future at Real Madrid was always bound to spark suggestions that a return to Liverpool could be on the cards after less than two years.
The Reds are in need of a new right-back, having never fully replaced him following his move to Real Madrid, and a potential return could be the solution to their problems.
However, Football Insider revealed on 24 October that Liverpool are not interested in bringing Alexander-Arnold back to Anfield given the way he left the club.
The 28-year-old angered Reds fans when he left for Real in 2025, and is unlikely to be welcomed back with open arms, as the club fear backlash over the move.
