Verdict: 40-touch Everton letdown is only headed for exit doors after display vs Newcastle

Tyler Dibling in action for Everton ahead of Hill Dickinson

Tyler Dibling in action for Everton ahead of Hill Dickinson

The Toffees booked their place in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup after beating the Magpies 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Blues are now set for a trip up the coast to face Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium after they shocked the footballing world to beat Arsenal.

David Moyes will be particularly thankful to the likes of James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry, who all got on the scoresheet against Newcastle.

Some players were given a big chance to impress in L3, especially with another game against Matthias Jaissle's side looming on Monday, only this time in the Premier League.

Dibling was one of those who were given a big chance for Everton; however, the right-winger failed to take it against Newcastle.

Why Tyler Dibling failed to impress David Moyes vs Newcastle

Dibling signed for Everton last year in a £40million deal from Southampton that promised excitement.

While his arrival had Evertonians on the edge of their seats, they've pretty much been waiting for something to click for over a year now.

There are several factors that can explain why it hasn't worked out for the 20-year-old so far, including Moyes' lack of trust.

However, that's exactly why it was so important for Dibling to back up recent cameos with a strong performance against Newcastle.

The youngster was on the pitch for 76 minutes and had just 40 touches of the ball, often misplacing loose passes.

He gave away six passes out of an attempted 21, and almost allowed Newcastle to score in the first half as he was intercepted before James Tarkowski made a huge block to spare his blushes.

Dibling had just one shot, which was off target and only created one chance for his teammates, completing 50 per cent of his dribbles.

The Englishman needs to do something to impress Moyes and get into his starting eleven more often, but his display against Newcastle has only harmed his playing chances.

Why Everton have obvious January decision to make with Dibling

Dibling should have been sent out on loan in the second half of last season, as there were rumours of a return to Southampton.

The Toffees made a mistake by not sending him down to the Championship, because he sat and rotted on the bench for the majority of the second half of the campaign.

Moyes and Co. simply cannot afford to make the same mistake, especially considering the money that was spent to buy the winger.

It only makes sense for Dibling to leave Hill Dickinson on loan this time round, with his chances at Everton surely destined to get worse in the latter stages of the season.
