Rashford has emerged as a surprise target for the Merseysiders ahead of the winter window, with the England international currently out injured at Old Trafford.

Wyness believes that the two clubs may initially split the winger’s wages at 50 per cent each for the length of a potential loan deal, in order to increase its viability for Everton.

Rashford has spent time on loan at both Aston Villa and Barcelona in recent years, and his long-term future with United remains hugely insecure.

Michael Carrick opted to have him as part of his squad for this season, but with his contract due to expire in 2028, the club are running out of time to cash in on him.

Everton to include European bonus in Marcus Rashford deal

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that his former club would likely add a European bonus in any deal to sign Rashford.

That could see the eventual transfer fee for the 28-year-old increase if David Moyes can guide his side towards the top of the table this season.

“I think we're looking at Man United and Everton paying 50 per cent of his wages each to start with,” he said.

“I think an option to buy him at around £25m is the sort of number that would be likely. And I think that there could be a European bonus or something in there.

“It may start with a six-month loan and then an option to buy after that. But I think there's something to it.”

Everton ‘definitely’ holding Marcus Rashford ‘talks’

Wyness also told Football Insider on Wednesday that Everton are “definitely” already holding “talks” about a potential move for Rashford this winter.

The Scottish businessman is adamant that there is truth to the recent transfer links, with the Toffees trying to work out a way to get a deal done.

United are running out of opportunities to cash in on the veteran before his deal expires, and that could see them open to a sale within the upcoming windows.
