Former Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish was left out of Everton’s squad to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup after reportedly missing team training.

The Toffees sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the competition after goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney, and Thierno Barry.

When the team news was confirmed, Everton posted that Grealish was left out because of "a breach of club discipline".

After the match, Moyes said that Grealish’s absence from the squad was a decision that came from the club, adding that he said he supports the call.

“I don’t really want to speak too much about. It’s a club decision, so I support the decision,” he said in his post-match press conference. The club are the people you should go to if you’re looking for more information.

“The one thing about Everton and what they’ve got is they’ve got really good values behind it,” Moyes added.

“All the players stand up to the values, accept the values Everton put out there, what we want from them on the pitch and off the pitch, and from that point of view, the players done a brilliant job tonight.”

Asked whether Grealish would return for Monday’s league fixture against Newcastle, Moyes refused to discuss team selection: “I’d never give any team news away,”

Grealish joined Everton for a second loan in the summer, with this season being the last he is under contract with parent club Manchester City.

He left Villa in the summer of 2021, signing a six year deal with City. Under Pep Guardiola, Grealish won three Premier Leauge titles, the FA Cup and the Champions League.
