Raging Joelinton ready for revenge as Jordan Pickford takes it too far with Newcastle insult

The stakes have now been raised significantly for Monday night's clash at St James' Park as Everton taunt Newcastle at full-time

Jordan Pickford and James Tarkowski clash with Newcastle United's Joelinton and Dan Burn

Everton chose to fan the flames ahead of Monday night's meeting by taunting Newcastle United players TWICE at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

‌

‌

The home club opted to play a fan rendition of the Jordan Pickford song over the tannoy before their 3-1 win over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup to the delight of the Wearsider. Then shortly after Pickford had pulled off another of his party pieces, by refusing to release the ball when Dan Burn crashed home a late header to give the Magpies slight hope at the end, the Everton PA announcer dropped the ditty again with tempers still boiling.

After Joelinton had been thrown to the floor by James Tarkowski and Burn had tried to push England team-mate Pickford away from danger, a mini fracas in the goalmouth erupted and even required Lukas Hornicek to sprint to the other end of the field to cool things down.

The song may have been deemed a bit of fun by Everton but Newcastle fans weren't impressed and the stage for a quick revenge mission has already been set. The lyrics of the song read: "He's a Mackem, he's a Blue, he's a Toffee through and through,

"He hates Newcastle, he hates the ----- (aimed at Liverpool FC), Jordan Pickford is dynamite."

As Joelinton hurled his shirt into the few remaining Newcastle fans after the whistle, he already looked like a man pumped up for revenge.

Proud record goes up in smoke

The Carabao Cup exit is the earliest in this competition for five years and you'd have to go back to the Mike Ashley era for the last knock out before the quarter-finals for the Magpies.

That was under Steve Bruce when Newcastle lost at home on penalties in round two but Howe managed to reach at least the last eight in all of his seasons on Tyneside. Last year's run to the semi-finals against Man City was arguably in sight had Newcastle beaten Everton with a tie at League Two Fleetwood on offer last night.

With no Europe, it is Premier League fixtures all the way and no excuses for the Magpies between now and FA Cup third round weekend in early January. It means Newcastle have no excuses as they look to press on in the league.

Andy Burnham walks through mixed zone

As Newcastle players were leaving the Hill Dickinson, the Prime Minister, a huge Everton fan, was heading for his transport after the 3-1 win. The jubilant PM was greeted by waiting Everton fans, whom he stopped to speak to and pose for pictures amid the euphoria of the Carabao Cup win.

It made for a bizarre setting as Newcastle players walked past to get on the bus with a mix of boos and delight outside the stadium. But the one positive for travelling United fans is that the majority of Magpies stars looked angry after the defeat and they should need no team talk for Monday night.
