Thierno Barry's partner has confirmed their house was burgled during Thursday's Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle United
Thierno Barry scores for Everton against Newcastle United at Hill Dickinson Stadium
Everton striker Thierno Barry may have been one of the heroes on the pitch during his side's Carabao Cup win over Newcastle United, but he didn't enjoy as much good fortune off the pitch after his home was targeted while he was playing.
Barry's partner has revealed the couple's home was broken into during Thursday's cup match against Newcastle. The striker's partner, Charlene, with whom he has a daughter, took to social media in the early hours of Friday morning to confirm the raid.
She wrote: "Unfortunately, our home was burgled this evening while we were at the football match. Thankfully, nobody was home at the time, but this is still an extremely distressing and violating experience for us and our family.
"If anyone has seen or heard anything suspicious, or has any information that could help, we would be incredibly grateful if you could get in touch. We are also willing to offer a financial reward for any information that helps identify those responsible. Thank you to everyone for your support," reports the Liverpool Echo.
The incident follows a troubling pattern of footballers falling victim to burglaries, with Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White also having his home targeted earlier this week. The Nottingham Forest talent's partner, Britney De Villiers, took to social media on Tuesday to alert followers to the break-in.
She said: "I wasn't going to publicly share this but our home was burgled a few days ago and after hearing about another one since, I feel it's important to just warn others. It's incredibly unsettling knowing that homes are being targeted.
"Please be extra vigilant, make sure your security systems are on whether you're in the house or not and report anything suspicious. Thankfully, nobody was home when it happened and material things can be replaced but it's a horrible feeling knowing someone has violated your home, especially when you have young children. Please stay safe and look out for one another."
Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, saw his home ransacked by masked robbers during Manchester United's 4-1 loss to Como last week. A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 8.30pm on Wednesday 21 October, police were called to reports of suspicious activity at an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley.
"The caller reported three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property. Officers attended the scene and on arrival there was no trace of the suspects. However, officers discovered that there had been a burglary at the address and a number of items had been stolen."
Newcastle players themselves have been victims of targeted attacks on their property while they've been on the pitch. In 2024, Joelinton's home was broken into TWICE with the midfielder taking to social media to ask 'to live in peace' after the second break-in.
And the same year, former Magpies striker Alexander Isak saw cash and his car stolen from his Darras Hall mansion, which eventually resulted in a man being convicted.
Barry was on the scoresheet as Everton secured their spot in the League Cup quarter-finals against the Magpies on Thursday night.
James Garner broke the deadlock for the Blues shortly after the half-hour mark when Amar Dedic was caught in possession by Tyrique George on the left flank, with Hayden Hackney delivering a first-time pass into the area for Garner, who bent his effort beyond Lukas Hornicek. Hackney doubled the hosts' lead on the stroke of half-time, with Barry picking out the midfielder in the centre of the box, who volleyed home from close range with minimal effort required, stretching his side's advantage.
Barry, meanwhile, put the game beyond doubt for the Blues with roughly 20 minutes remaining. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall surged forward before laying it off to the Frenchman at the far post.

While Dan Burn salvaged some pride with a towering header in the dying moments, his strike proved nothing more than a consolation, as Newcastle crashed out of the competition.
