They will play League Two Fleetwood Town in the next round, meaning progression to the semi-finals should be easier.
There are still sides like Manchester City and Liverpool in the competition, though, so it will not be an easy path to success.
It has brought back debate over whether the Blues can finally win a trophy, for the first time in ages, something which Alan Stubbs was not keen to talk about.
Why did Alan Stubbs cut off Ray Parlour amid Everton reminder?
Stubbs shut down former Arsenal man Ray Parlour when he tried to bring up the Toffees' trophy drought live on talkSPORT.
The man who made 193 appearances for the L3 outfit was not having it all all and interrupted his former Premier League rival live on air.
Parlour said: “The last trophy, which isn’t good enough, really for a club like Everton.”
Stubbs responded before he could finish, saying: “Ray, don’t remind me, please.”
It is probably the same feeling as all Blues supporters have at the moment, they will not be getting ahead of themselves.
How close have Everton come to ending their trophy drought?
The People's Club last won a trophy in 1995, with Paul Rideout scoring the only goal against Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
They have reached the latter stages of that competition three times since then, with the most infamous being when they lost to Chelsea in the final in the 2008-09 campaign.
They also lost semi-finals to Liverpool and Manchester United in the 2011-12 and 2015-16 seasons.
They have never won the League Cup in their history, despite reaching the final twice, losing to Aston Villa and their arch rivals from across the city.
In recent times, they have made it as far as the semi-finals in the 2007-08 and 2015-16 campaigns, losing to Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.
Right now, it is a dream to end the drought, rather than a realistic expectation, but that will change quickly if they get to the final of the first domestic cup of the season in March.
