That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that it could negatively impact the Lilywhites' PR if they do not comply.

Shakhtar's CEO is pushing for Spurs to pay compensation after they signed Solomon on a free transfer back in 2023 amid the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

FIFA allowed players to cancel their contracts with Ukrainian clubs back in 2023 in order to escape the conflict, and Spurs took advantage of that by signing Solomon.

The Israel international made just six competitive appearances for Spurs and was eventually sold to West Ham United for £5million this summer.

Tottenham urged to follow Chelsea example

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Tottenham need to follow Chelsea's recent example of amicable dealings with Shakhtar.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained how Tottenham need to take a leaf out of their rivals' book and strike an agreement to pay compensation.

"Well, it's more about the optics with Spurs taking advantage of a wartime situation in Ukraine. Now that's not a great look, and I think they'd be better served by trying to sort this out behind the scenes and making a gesture with their payment," he said.

"We saw Chelsea offering Shakhtar the chance to play their games at Stamford Bridge. That's the sort of bridge building we should be talking about.

"It's a small amount of money we're talking about to make them happy in terms of more than training compensation. I think it could rebound if Spurs don't play this properly and come to an agreement behind the scenes.

That scenario appears increasingly likely, with Gibbs-White growing frustrated at the lack of development at Forest of late.

Brown is adamant that Spurs would be a clear option for the 26-year-old if he opted to depart the City Ground, given their strong attempts to sign him previously.
