Arteta reveals triple Arsenal boost for Liverpool as four could return

Fleetwood celebrate famous Carabao Cup win over Arsenal

Mikel Arteta's side are in need of a strong performance on Sunday to bounce back from their dismal Carabao Cup exit at the hands of fourth-tier Fleetwood in midweek.

The Gunners now make the high-profile trip to Anfield, where they have not won in the Premier League since the 2012/13 season.

Rice felt discomfort in his hamstring against Everton last weekend, while Madueke has been managing a minor ankle issue.

Calafiori came on for the closing stages of the 2-0 win over Everton but by the end of the match was just stood up front. He went straight down the tunnel at full-time.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta indicated that all three players have a real chance of making the Arsenal squad to face Liverpool, along with Christos Tzolis.

The Greek winger has not played since returning from the last international break early with a hamstring injury.

Tzolis has stepped up his recovery and returned to first-team training, with a late decision set to be made on whether he is involved against Liverpool.

“They all trained today,” Arteta said on Rice, Tzolis and Calafiori. “If they train tomorrow, they will all be available.”

On Madueke, the Arsenal manager said: “We don't know yet. We have a training session tomorrow, let’s see if he can complete the full session. After that, we will know if he's available.”

Arsenal will definitely remain without Bukayo Saka, who is set for further tests to determine the extent of the quad injury he suffered in the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich last week.

“He needs another scan to see how the amount of fluid was resolving,” Arteta said. “After we will know more about it.”

Still out along with Saka is William Saliba, who continues to work his way back to fitness after exacerbating a long-term back injury at the World Cup over the summer.

Saliba avoided surgery but was expected to be sidelined for a long period and has yet to play for Arsenal this season, with further tests expected recently to check on his progress after he resumed individual training out on the grass at London Colney.
