The England winger was omitted from the team that defeated Newcastle United 3-1 in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.

Everton stated that the 31-year-old was missing the game due to disciplinary reasons.

It was later reported in the media that Grealish had missed training on Monday without prior authorisation.

Coincidentally, Everton will face off against the Magpies on Monday, this time at St James' Park in the Premier League.

Henry Winter gave his thoughts on whether Grealish should be allowed to return to the fold for that fixture.

Jack Grealish Everton situation uncertain vs Newcastle

Speaking after the game, Toffees boss David Moyes was non-committal on whether Grealish would be available on Monday.

It is far from the ideal situation for Moyes, who is working with a threadbare squad at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Grealish is in his second loan spell under Moyes, the first of which was ended by injury in February last year.

It would be beneficial to have Grealish available, especially with Moyes having limited options to choose from.

But journalist Henry Winter, speaking on talkSPORT, thinks that Grealish will not be involved, though he expects talks to happen with Moyes.

He said: "No, I don't (think he'll play), and I don't think he deserves his place, because you have to back David Moyes in this situation, he's an experienced manager.

"He was obviously annoyed, it was something to do with maybe timekeeping and unauthorised absence from training.

"Maybe there was a reason behind that, the two of them can talk through that. But look, they certainly didn't miss him last night."

Has Jack Grealish served his punishment at Everton?

Look, no player, no matter how important to the team they may be, can miss training and not be punished.

It was absolutely fair that Grealish was left out of the squad that booked a quarter-final berth in the Carabao Cup.

But how big does the punishment need to be?

Surely, missing the game was a fair call from Moyes and everyone can now move on from the situation?

If you exclude him again you're sort of cutting off your nose to spite your face. He's had his punishment, now bring him back.
