Bruno Fernandes Back To Pull The Strings: 4-2-3-1 Man United Predicted XI vs Chelsea

Bruno Fernandes Back To Pull The Strings: 4-2-3-1 Man United Predicted XI vs Chelsea

Bidding to end their eight-game winless run in all competitions, Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Head coach Michael Carrick was widely expected to be sacked after Manchester United’s 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, but INEOS have decided to give him yet more time to turn things around. Sunday’s result was the Red Devils’ second consecutive defeat by a three-goal margin, following their 4-1 Champions League loss to Como.

Man United have collected just seven points from their opening eight league matches, their worst start to a top-flight season in 40 years. The Mancunian giants currently sit just a point above the relegation zone ahead of their trip to Chelsea, who lost their previous league game to Tottenham and were eliminated from the EFL Cup by Liverpool via penalty shootout in midweek.

Manchester United Team News

Michael Carrick and Bruno Fernandes reportedly met face-to-face and cleared the air earlier this week, after the Man United captain was dropped against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

There was further good news for Carrick on Wednesday, with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo returning to training after a fortnight out through injury. Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Patrick Dorgu remain out, while Benjamin Sesko has been sidelined until New Year due to a shin injury suffered in mid-September.

Predicted Man United lineup vs Chelsea (4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper

Senne Lammens’ form has dipped since returning from the World Cup. The Belgium international made the wrong decision to rush out of his line for Bournemouth’s third goal last weekend. Despite his poor displays, Carrick is set to stick with Lammens in goal.

Defence

Man United have failed to keep a single clean sheet in the Premier League this season. Their defence has been all over the place, conceding 13 goals in eight games. Carrick could decide to restore Lisandro Martinez in his side after he was only fit for an appearance off the bench against Bournemouth. If that happens, the Argentinean will partner Harry Maguire at the heart of the Man United lineup.

Diogo Dalot and Leny Yoro might retain their spots at left-back and right-back, respectively. Yoro was at fault for Bournemouth’s second goal, and the young Frenchman will be raring to make amends against Chelsea.

Midfield

Kobbie Mainoo was spotted back in training on Wednesday but is unlikely to be thrown straight into the mix. Youri Tielemans could revert to his usual No.8 role and partner Carlos Baleba, with Andrey Santos dropping out of the Man United lineup.

Having held talks with Carrick in midweek and cleared the air, Bruno Fernandes is expected to be back in the side and orchestrate attacks from his preferred No.10 role. The Portuguese star will have to regain his mojo to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Attack

With Sesko sidelined, Bryan Mbeumo should continue to lead the Man United attack. The Cameroonian international is expected to be flanked by Matheus Cunha and Amad Diallo in the Man United lineup.

Cunha and Diallo will be responsible for stretching the Chelsea back five and creating opportunities for Mbeumo in the box.

Joshua Zirkzee, Shea Lacey and Mason Mount could get opportunities to make an impact off the bench.
