Chelsea host rivals Manchester United on Saturday, with both sides in desperate need of a victory.

United boss Michael Carrick is currently under intense pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around after a dismal start to the new season, while the Blues suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

That was just Spurs’ second league victory at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League era, but Xabi Alonso’s side remain fifth in the top flight table and are still in contention to qualify for the Champions League.

Chelsea will also be boosted by the return of talisman Cole Palmer for the visit of United, with the England international having missed the Blues’ Carabao Cup defeat against Liverpool on Wednesday after being sent off against Tottenham last weekend.

Now, a report has revealed the truth about rumours suggesting that the Englishman was close to joining Man United earlier this year.

As per the Daily Mail, Palmer was never mentioned during discussions between Chelsea and Manchester United last summer.

Palmer is a boyhood Manchester United fan having grown up in the area, and the midfielder has been linked with a shock move to Old Trafford on a number of occasions.

The report claims, though, that the 24-year-old was never mentioned during talks between the Blues and the Red Devils last summer, making it unlikely that he will complete a move to Old Trafford any time soon.

Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023, having graduated from the Citizens’ youth system.

He made an instant impact at Stamford Bridge, scoring 25 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 games across all competitions for the Blues.

Palmer recently signed a new contract with Chelsea that is set to run until the end of the 2033/34 campaign.
