Maresca Says Man City Ace Is In “Good” Shape Ahead Of Return From Injury
Man City boss Enzo Maresca claims Antoine Semenyo is making “good” progress in his recovery from a knee injury.
The Ghanaian international picked up the problem during the 3-2 win over Ipswich Town earlier this month, but Maresca says the forward has already begun rehabilitation:
“He is good, he is in a good mood. He is inside the building doing recovery sessions, all the therapy that he needs, but again it is too early now [to discuss his return].”
Semenyo is expected to be on the treatment table for up to two months.
How many games could the Man City star miss?
Semenyo has already been ruled out for three matches: the 5-1 win over AEK Athens, the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa and the penalty shootout victory over Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
If his estimated recovery time is accurate, he could miss up to 12 more fixtures, including Brighton (h), Nottingham Forest (a), Fulham (h), Arsenal (a), Leeds (h), Brentford (a), Chelsea (h) and Hull (h) in the Premier League, three Champions League group matches against RB Leipzig (a), Napoli (h) and Barcelona (a), as well as the Carabao Cup quarter-final tie versus Bradford City in December.
Latest Man City injury news
Maresca says that he has almost a fully fit squad to choose from ahead of the Premier League fixture against Brighton, with the exception of Semenyo.
Matheus Nunes has missed the last two matches with a muscular problem, but the Portuguese international is now back in training.
There were some doubts over the fitness of Iliman Ndiaye as well, after he left the pitch against Villa last Saturday with cramp. He didn’t feature in the Carabao Cup midweek, but it seems the Senegalese international is available for selection.
