Jordan Henderson was a surprising omission from Chelsea’s squad for Saturday afternoon’s game against Manchester United. Henderson has been an integral part of Xabi Alonso’s side since returning from a broken arm in September.
The England international made an incredible impact on his home debut against Bournemouth, scoring twice and providing an assist in a 5-1 win. Henderson had played the full 90 minutes in five consecutive games for Chelsea.
That run has now ended, as Henderson was not even named on the substitutes’ bench on Saturday. Here is the latest news on why the 36-year-old was left out of the Blues’ Premier League clash with United.

Why Jordan Henderson is missing from Chelsea’s squad against Man Utd
BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella has revealed that “Jordan Henderson is out through illness.” This explains why he is not involved in Chelsea’s Premier League game against Manchester United this weekend.
One can only assume Henderson will not be at Stamford Bridge to watch the game, both because he is unwell and to avoid spreading his illness to anyone else. However, the veteran midfielder will be a big miss for Xabi Alonso’s side.

Moises Caicedo is set to partner Romeo Lavia in central midfield after the Belgian completed his first 90 minutes in a Chelsea shirt against Liverpool. Alonso can also call upon Valentin Barco or 16-year-old Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli from the bench.
Assuming Henderson’s illness is not serious, he should be available for the Blues’ next Premier League game against Sunderland. The former Sunderland midfielder would surely relish another opportunity to return to the Stadium of Light.
