Estevao Willian made a rare start for Chelsea in their 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

It was his first start in the Premier League this season, and the winger did not disappoint. Both goals Estevao scored against United were later ruled out for offside, but he still had a good game despite not getting his name on the scoresheet.

Despite barely playing for Chelsea this season, Estevao has still been called up to the Brazil squad for the next round of international fixtures. Carlo Ancelotti is a fan of the 19-year-old, and it appears that he is now starting to win over Xabi Alonso.

Alonso was asked about Estevao after the game, stating that the young attacker played well and has definitely given him something to think about going forward.

In a post-match interview, the Chelsea manager told TNT Sports: “Estevao did really well. I am happy for him. He deserved this chance and the opportunity to give back.

“Absolutely, [his performance] has given him more reasons to say ‘coach I want to play more minutes.'”

It was a huge victory for Chelsea following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. During the week, the Blues were also eliminated from the Carabao Cup after losing to Liverpool on penalties, so it was a win that Alonso really needed.

As well as Estevao, Romeo Lavia also had a solid game, completing 90 minutes for the second time in a single week. It is a very encouraging sign for a player who has had so much injury trouble.
