Christos Tzolis drops huge hint on starting line-up against Liverpool

Christos Tzolis - Arsenal

Christos Tzolis has not played a minute for Arsenal since he suffered a hamstring injury on international duty with Greece on October 1. The winger has missed Arsenal’s matches since the last international break.

Tzolis went off in the 18th minute of Greece’s 2-2 Nations League draw with the Netherlands in Thessaloniki. He wanted to play on but was replaced by Giorgos Masouras.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta later said: “Tzolis has a muscle injury, and he’s going to be out for a few weeks.” Early reports suggested a layoff of up to three weeks.

The Greece international had started Arsenal’s first five Premier League matches on the left wing. Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke have taken more of the attacking minutes since he went down.

Now reports say Tzolis has put himself back into his Fantasy Premier League team ahead of Sunday’s game at Anfield. The reports present the move as a hint about Arsenal’s line-up.

Arteta gave a more cautious update at his Friday press conference. Tzolis, Riccardo Calafiori and Declan Rice all trained, and the manager said: “They all trained today and they will train tomorrow. If everything is OK, they will be available.”

Tzolis joined Arsenal from Club Brugge in the summer for a reported £34 million. He scored 17 goals and set up 23 as Brugge won the Belgian title last season, and he set up two goals in Arsenal’s Community Shield win over Manchester City.

Arsenal need attacking options. Bukayo Saka is out with a quadriceps injury suffered in the 10th minute of the 2-2 Champions League draw at Bayern Munich on October 21.

Max Dowman must serve a three-match ban after his red card in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Fleetwood Town, and Arsenal lost their appeal. Arsenal went out 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Madueke missed that game with an ankle problem. Arteta said on Friday: “We don’t know yet” whether he will play.

Arsenal travel as reigning Premier League champions, but they have not won at Anfield in the league since September 2012.
