Arsenal get major team news boost after Man City slip-up

Arsenal have received a significant injury boost ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool, with Noni Madueke, Riccardo Calafiori and Christos Tzolis all travelling to Merseyside.

According to HandofArsenal on X, the trio have made the trip with Arsenal’s travelling party, although their inclusion in the official matchday squad remains uncertain.

The development offers encouragement to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who has faced several selection problems ahead of the important encounter at Anfield.

Madueke’s potential availability is particularly significant following the injury to Bukayo Saka and the suspension of Max Dowman.

The England international missed Tuesday’s shock Carabao Cup elimination against Fleetwood Town after sustaining an ankle problem during Arsenal’s previous Premier League victory over Everton.

Arteta admitted during Friday’s pre-match press conference that Madueke’s availability would depend on whether he could complete Saturday’s training session.

The winger’s reported presence in Liverpool now raises hopes that he has made sufficient progress to feature against Andoni Iraola’s side.

Calafiori has also been recovering from a minor fitness issue sustained during Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Everton last weekend.

The Italian defender subsequently missed the Fleetwood defeat but returned to training alongside Declan Rice and Tzolis on Friday.

Arteta suggested that all three would be available for selection provided they completed their final preparations without further setbacks.

Meanwhile, Tzolis has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury while representing Greece during the October international break.

The 24-year-old has missed Arsenal’s last six matches across all competitions, leaving Arteta with fewer attacking options.

His potential return would therefore provide another welcome alternative as Arsenal attempt to overcome their injury problems.

However, travelling with the squad does not necessarily guarantee that any of the three players will feature on Sunday.

Arteta must still assess their fitness before deciding whether they are ready to start, appear from the bench or remain outside the matchday squad.

Arsenal are already without Saka, who continues to recover from a thigh injury sustained against Bayern Munich, while William Saliba remains sidelined.

Dowman is also unavailable after Arsenal’s appeal against his three-match suspension was rejected following his dismissal at Fleetwood.

The Gunners travel to Anfield hoping to respond to that disappointing cup exit and strengthen their position in the Premier League title race.

Manchester City’s defeat against Brighton on Saturday has also presented Arsenal with an opportunity to move clear at the summit.

With Arsenal seeking their first league victory at Anfield since September 2012, the possible return of three important players could prove particularly timely.
