Bryan Mbeumo believes there were positives to take from Manchester United's defeat to Chelsea despite the team extending their winless run to nine games.
If United had taken their chances on Saturday it would have been a totally different story. Amad, Matheus Cunha, Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes were all guilty of missing first-half chances, and Chelsea delivered the suckerpunch in the second half as a bit of Morgan Rogers magic handed the Blues the lead.
Lisandro Martinez's ridiculous challenge on Wesley Fofana saw him sent off before Cole Palmer slotted home the subsequent penalty, leaving Michael Carrick to rue the chances his side had missed.
Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game, Mbeumo reflected on his side's display and said the number of chances United created - even though they were missed - was a big positive.
“A lot of disappointment. I think we’ve done a lot of right things, especially in the first half, especially when we could have been up 1-0 or 2-0," he said.
"The first half we had a lot of chances, which is a positive. I think the last games we didn’t create a lot but obviously they are a good team with quality.”
When asked if United were suffering from a lack of confidence having gone so long without a win in any competition, Mbeumo replied:
“I think every goal hurts. With what we’ve shown today I think we can really be, I won’t say proud, but I think the mentality was there. Everyone worked really hard and we still have to modify some bits on the training ground, work even harder, and we have two very important games [coming up].”
