Liverpool can set a new unbeaten Anfield record against Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta brings the champions to Merseyside for the first time this season.

Arteta has lost three of his last four managerial encounters with Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool are undefeated in the last 13 league meetings against Arsenal at Anfield, winning eight times in the process.

If they avoid defeat this time, the Reds will set a new club record of 14 at home without defeat against the Gunners.

The last time Liverpool lost to Arsenal at Anfield was in 2012 (2-1), on a day when Arteta played in midfield and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came off the bench for the visitors.

Liverpool vs. Arsenal has meant goals… until recently

The teams’ last meeting, a 0-0 at the Emirates last January, was the first goalless draw in league encounters since 2015, also at Arsenal.

Only two of the last 54 top-flight meetings have ended without a goal.

Liverpool’s win at home last season ended a run of three successive draws at Anfield. In fact, five of the last seven league meetings home and away have failed to produce a winner.

Liverpool have won 26, drawn 24 and lost 18 of the 68 Premier League-era encounters. Only against Everton (26) have the Reds drawn more games in that period.

The one goal scored in the two fixtures last season was the fewest scored in both meetings of a league campaign since the two goalless draws in 1998/99.

Seventy-nine goals have been scored in the last 21 top-flight clashes, with Liverpool’s share being 50.

They have scored three or more goals in 10 of the last 21 league fixtures with Arsenal, but have failed to do so in any of the last nine.

Arsenal’s defence is staying strong

Going into this weekend’s fixtures, they have won three and lost one of their 4 away league games this season, while scoring only four times, one fewer than bottom club Sunderland.

In total, their five goals conceded is the fewest of any Premier League side this season.

They have not drawn any of the last 19 league games (16 wins and three losses) since a 2-2 draw at Wolves in February.

Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton six weeks ago was their biggest league loss since May 2023, when they were beaten 3-0 by Brighton.

Arteta’s side have won 12 of their last 13 league outings, the outlier being that defeat at Brighton. That is the only away league fixture in which they have conceded so far this season.

Arsenal have netted five times in the last four league outings and have kept nine clean sheets in the last 13 top-flight matches.

The Gunners have won all five league games this season when scoring the game’s first goal, while Liverpool have won all three when doing so.

On Tuesday, Arsenal were knocked out of the League Cup by Fleetwood on penalties, a team ranked 84 places below them.
