Jack Grealish playing for Everton, with Hill Dickinson Stadium behind him
Jack Grealish playing for Everton, with Hill Dickinson Stadium behind him
With David Moyes setting up a final eight tie with Fleetwood in that 3-1 success, all eyes should have been on a real shot at silverware.
Instead, Grealish was the name on everybody's lips.
The England international was dropped for disciplinary breaches, missing training unauthorised at Finch Farm.
So, the next question is, will he return against Newcastle again on Monday?
Jack Grealish updates from Finch Farm
Unfortunately, this isn't the first kind of these updates from Grealish's career.
While at Aston Villa and Manchester City, he has suffered from the limelight, mainly his time in the nightlife.
Several incidents of poor time-keeping and absences have been documented at Everton, too.
He's only been here just over a year in two loans, and with his City contract up at the end of the year, you'd have thought he'd be leaving it all out there.
BBC Sport did report that Grealish is back in training at Finch Farm, and that this isn't seen as a last-chance salloon.
The winger is seen as a great trainer, and is said to have held talks with those in power, making it clear that it can't happen again.
It's very clear that Moyes simply won't allow it, too.
Why Jack Grealish simply has to play vs Newcastle
While it would be no surprise to see him start on the bench at St James' Park, he simply has to be in the squad.
Moyes has been left with a threadbare squad, and the evidence has shown that even some of them aren't up for it.
Tyler Dibling struggled once again in the Carabao Cup win, while Brennan Johnson continues to disappoint.
That leaves Tyrique George, who, while better, isn't delivering huge numbers of goal involvements at this stage of his career.
With Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall busting a gut every single week, he needs that help and quality around him in the final third.
Grealish delivers that and more.
Maybe Moyes could use this to start Grealish and light a fire in his belly, with that cup win needing to spark a small revival in the Premier League, too.
