NUFC Remembrance
NUFC Remembrance
Newcastle United will pay tribute to service personnel ahead of the Monday evening fixture against Everton, as part of the club’s Remembrance Day commemorations.
As the closest home fixture to Remembrance Day, the occasion gives players, staff and fans a chance to unite in paying respects to those who have lost their lives in military conflict.
An on-pitch tribute will take place at St. James' Park, with players also set to wear poppy shirts during the match, which will later be auctioned to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.
MATCHDAY ACTIVITY
Pre-match ceremony
Prior to kick-off, both teams will be joined on the pitch by local service personnel representing three branches of the Armed Forces:
Terry Brown (Bugler)
Ronnie Collins (British Army)
Mel Simm (Royal Navy)
John Bond (RAF)
Members of the Armed Forces will lay wreaths in the centre circle before joining players, staff, match officials and fans for a minute’s silence, during which The Last Post will be played. Fans are encouraged to take their seats early to participate in the period of silence.
Stadium display
A pre-match tribute has also been coordinated by fan group Wor Flags. Supporters in the East Stand are invited to raise cards to depict a display of remembrance throughout the silence.
Commemorative shirts
Newcastle United players will wear shirts displaying poppies for both the Everton home match and away fixture against Fulham on Saturday 7th November. The shirts will be signed by players and made available for auction by MatchWornShirt, with proceeds going to the Royal British Legion. Auctions begin at kick-off and bids can be placed -here.
PTSD matchday space
The club is providing a private 24-person executive box offering local veterans living with PTSD a safe, comfortable space to enjoy the match alongside a guest, with options to view the game from inside the box or seated directly outside.
