FA rules hand Everton major boost ahead of Newcastle United clash

Everton have been handed a big boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Everton are set to welcome back Jarrad Branthwaite for Monday night's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Branthwaite collided with Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez during the Toffees’ recent 1-0 defeat and left the field with a concussion, while Martinez was taken to hospital with a broken jaw.

Under FA concussion protocols, players are prevented from playing or training for at least 12 days until being cleared by a medical professional. That meant Branthwaite missed last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal and Thursday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup last 16 win over the Magpies.

Everton injury boost ahead of Newcastle United clash

Moyes said: "Jarrad should have recovered from his concussion and also the timescale which we had to abide by.

The Everton boss is also hopeful that his side don’t have any fresh injury concerns ahead of their visit to Tyneside.

"I think so,” Moyes added. “I know we're talking about Monday, but you never know until you get them back in the following day [after the game] and see how everybody is – but hopefully things will be okay."

Newcastle, however, are sweating over the fitness of Will Osula, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley.

Fernandez-Pardo (illness) and Miley (glute) have missed the last two matches, while Osula was forced at half-time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday.

Osula, who has only recently returned from an ankle issue, took a heavy whack following a blocked shot from James Tarkowski. Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen are definitely ruled out.
