Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been making “calls” to ascertain whether Lennart Karl is interested in leaving Bayern Munich, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

Writing on his personal website, CF Bayern Insider, Falk said that critical comments from club legend Uli Hoeness have prompted Premier League teams to make some enquiries:

“I heard that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United saw that there is something going on around Lennart Karl. Ultimately, when there’s a player at the Ballon d ‘Or ceremony who finished fourth in the Men’s Kopa Trophy (behind Warren Zaire-Emery, Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal), he’s going to be interesting to other clubs.”

“So calls have been made to ascertain what’s going on with the player and whether anyone’s not totally satisfied with the young German in Munich. He’s got a value of €60m [£50.1m], so it’s more than possible for Premier League clubs. It’s getting interesting.”

What did Hoeness say?

Bayern’s honorary president did not mince his words when speaking about Karl in recent days:

“He is far from a superstar. Young players need humility. Young players also need pressure. I don’t know if it’s good for Lennart Karl to always be overprotected… Comparisons with Olise obviously do him no favours; there is still a world of difference between them”

There is a feeling that Karl is getting too big for his boots and Hoeness clearly thinks that the teenager needs to be cut down to size. Of course, the player may not take too kindly to the remarks.

Where would Liverpool play him?

If a transfer does become a genuine possibility, as Falk suggests, then you can completely understand why the Reds would be in the mix. Although Karl is ostensibly an attacking midfielder, he can be deployed on the right of a front three where he can cut inside onto his stronger left foot.

Andoni Iraola’s side have been looking for a potential replacement for Mo Salah, and Karl certainly has the potential to be that player, if he has the right mentality.
