Madueke and Calafiori set to start for Arsenal against Liverpool

Noni Madueke is set to start for Arsenal in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield, according to North Bank Insider.

Madueke’s availability was initially doubtful due to an ankle injury, having missed the League Cup defeat at Fleetwood Town.

Riccardo Calafiori will also reportedly return to the starting XI, getting the nod over Lewis Myles-Skelly and Piero Hincapie at left-back.

Calafiori has not started a match since the 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

Ceadach O’Neill has travelled with the squad and is expected to be named on the bench. He made his senior debut for Arsenal against Fleetwood.

Madueke & Calafiori could be key against Liverpool

Arsenal are aiming to take advantage of Manchester City’s defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion by beating Liverpool and moving clear at the top of the Premier League table.

With Bukayo Saka ruled out and Max Dowman suspended, Madueke’s availability becomes even more important, as Arsenal look short of left-wing options.

The 24-year-old’s pace, direct running and excellent dribbling ability would be crucial to exploit Liverpool’s vulnerable left-back Milos Kerkez.

That said, Madueke needs to be more productive whenever he gets into promising positions.

Calafiori’s availability would also be crucial at both ends.

The Italian offers defensive solidity, helping the Gunners contain Liverpool’s attack.

His intelligent movement and willingness to push into midfield would also help the visitors in possession.

Madueke and Calafiori could play significant roles as the defending champions look to secure their first victory at Liverpool since 2012.
