Loan spells are designed to give young players regular first-team minutes in a competitive environment. When an injury interrupts that plan, both the parent club and the temporary side must adjust their expectations for the coming weeks. Recovery timelines can shift once further assessments are completed, particularly if the initial diagnosis underestimates the issue.

Arsenal have several players currently developing away from the first-team squad. Monitoring their progress and fitness forms part of the wider plan for the season. Any setback on loan is therefore followed closely at London Colney, even if the individual is not immediately available for selection.

Ismeal Kabia is facing another spell on the sidelines after a calf problem suffered on loan at St Mirren proved more serious than first thought. The Arsenal winger is expected to remain out until after the November international break after suffering a calf tear while on loan at St Mirren.

The 20-year-old was forced off during St Mirren’s 2-1 win over Dundee on 24 October and has since missed games against Hibernian and Motherwell. St Mirren manager Craig McLeish initially revealed that a scan had shown the problem was worse than first thought.

“Ismeal Kabia has picked something up with his calf,” he said. “We got it scanned and it showed up something a little bit worse than we all thought. We need a bit of time to assess that as we only found out about it today.”

McLeish later provided a clearer picture before Saturday’s trip to Motherwell, confirming that Kabia had suffered a small tear. “Kabia, it looks like it will probably be after the international break [when he returns], just with a small kind of tear on his calf,” he said. “Arsenal are going to take a look at it and things too, but probably looks like after the international break.”

The update means Kabia’s involvement for St Mirren will be limited in the short term. Arsenal will assess the injury themselves as part of the ongoing management of their loanees. The November international break offers a natural window for further recovery before he is reassessed for a return.

Kabia had been featuring regularly for St Mirren prior to the calf issue. His absence adds to the list of Arsenal players currently working their way back from various problems across the club’s loan network. The parent club will continue to receive updates as the rehabilitation progresses.

A return after the international break remains the current expectation based on the latest assessment from St Mirren. Further scans or opinions from Arsenal’s medical staff could influence the exact timeline. For now, the focus is on allowing the small tear to settle fully before Kabia resumes full training.
