Arsenal finally broke the Anfield curse to win their first Premier League away game against Liverpool since September 2012, when proud boss Mikel Arteta started in midfield.
Arsenal took the lead in the 16th minute when Declan Rice's low cross fizzed across the face of goal before Kai Havertz was on hand to guide in, temporarily silencing the Kop.
Liverpool felt they should have had two first-half penalties when Jurrien Timber pulled back Alexander Isak before Cody Gakpo went over following contact from Christos Tzolis.
The two rivals battled hard in the second-half but the Gunners held on to claim a much-needed win and return to the top of the Premier League table above Manchester City.

David Raya
Played the role of a sweeper-keeper brilliantly during the first half to nullify Liverpool's threat in behind. Was a strong presence throughout the game. 7
Jurrien Timber
Lucky not to concede a penalty for tugging Alexander Isak's shirt. Bradley Barcola was lively but Timber stood his ground and he didn't get too much defensive help from Noni Madueke at times. Solid in second half. 7
Ezri Konsa
Stuttered on the ball when receiving a pass from Declan Rice and Bradley Barcola threatened to pounce. The only thing he did wrong all game. Avenged around the 30-minute mark when he made a top tackle on Barcola as the Frenchman motored into the box. So strong during the second half, monstrous. 8
Gabriel Magalhaes
Got involved in an early grapple with Alexander Isak before going to ground clutching his face. Strangely, didn't have to do too much on a personal level but still helped Arsenal over the line. 7
Riccardo Calafiori
Excellent during the first half. Had his hand full up against Cody Gakpo but was strong in duels and really positive progressing the ball forward. Threatened in the final third during the second half. 8
Declan Rice
Put exceptional teasing ball in behind Liverpool's backline and across the face of goal for Kai Havertz to convert. Had a few strikes at goal and worked his socks off for Arsenal. Put in a sublime crunching challenge on Dominic Szoboszlai. 8

Bruno Guimaraes
Screeched passionately after executing top challenge on Bradley Barcola that also wiped out Declan Rice. Did the ugly side of the game really well for Arsenal. Subbed for Myles Lewis-Skelly after an hour. 6.5
Noni Madueke
A real out-ball for Arsenal and he relishing his responsibilities as a ball-carrier. Caused Milos Kerkez problems and was involved in the opener. Alexis Mac Allister tried to get him sent off but not much in it. 7
Martin Odegaard
Won the ball back for Kai Havertz's goal. Pressed well but went missing in spells and could have controlled play more for Arsenal. He has the quality to dictate. 6.5
Christos Tzolis
Thrown straight back in for his first start since Brighton following injury. You wouldn't have thought he hasn't played in weeks because he was sharp and caused Liverpool problems on the break with his positivity. Should have gone for goal in second half after Jeremy Jacquet slipped, tried to be unselfish and then forced brilliant stop from Alisson. 8
Kai Havertz
Took a few knocks in the opening stages but responded by turning in the opener at the far post. Worked hard and put his body on the line for the team, justifying his selection over Viktor Gyokeres and Mikel Merino. 7.5

Myles Lewis-Skelly
Lost the ball which sparked a Liverpool counter. Booked for clattering Alexander Isak then misplaced pass off pitch. 5
